Install Contelligent on Windows

The install process of the contelligent on windows is most simple. It installs a jboss instance and automatically deploys contelligent in it. If you want to install contelligent in an existing j2ee-container, read the Contelligent Deployment tutorial.

In order to install Contelligent you have to download the Installer for Windows from our Download Section. After you have downloaded it you need to start the installer to get started.

1. The first dialog is the welcome page. Just select 'Next >' to go ahead.
   
2. The second dialog asks you to provide a location where you want contelligent installed. If you don't have administration privileges choose a place where your user has write permissions. Otherwise, the installer will refuse to install. Note: The path you choose must not contain a whitespace due to a java bug. The installer will complain if you choose the wrong path, so don't bother too much.
   
3. One of the most critical parts of the Contelligent install is the configuration of a suitable database. Contelligent supports almost any decent RDBMS. Anyway, the installer has a set of databases intergrated. Thus, the configuring should be trivial in most cases. If you don't have a database installed or your database is not in the list, try the HSQL database scheme. HSQL will be automatically integrated. So, if you choose HSQL as your database scheme, you can skip the next step.
   Note: For production purpose HSQL is neither supported nor recommended. Thus, HSQL should be used for testing or development purpose only. Be warned! Choosing a decent database is highly recommended.
   
4. Choosing a database other then HSQL requires you to provide additional information. The screenshot below shows some typical fields you have to fill-in in order to get a successful install. Currently there is no active test whether the database is running and connectable. So get those informations right. If you want to change those values later you just need to edit the %CONTELLIGENT_INSTALLDIR%/jboss/server/default/deploy/ctl-ds.xml file manually.
   
5. Finally, after the files are installed your Contelligent server will be ready to finalize the install.
   
6. The Contelligent installer creates a group 'Contelligent' in your windows start menu. The menu group contains the following entries:
   • Contelligent - start your Contelligent server instance
   • Contelligent Admin Console - the general system administration console deployed in your Contelligent server
   • Contelligent Client - start the Contelligent multipurpose client
   • Contelligent Setup - finalize your database setup
   • Contelligent Website - browse the contelligent website
   • README - open the README
   • Uninstall - uninstall Contelligent. Note: I run the embedded HSQL database, this will purge your database too.
   
   
7. In order to finalize the Contelligent install, start your Contelligent server. Now Contelligent will import your deployed contelligent packages, which may take a moment. After successful import you will be left with a running contelligent instance. The result should look like the screenshot as follows.
   
8. Congratiulations. You have running Contelligent instance. After starting the Contelligent client, you can log-in using the default credentials: admin / admin. Have fun with your Contelligent installation!
